Research in Biomedical Engineering
Research in biomedical engineering is expected to support accelerating the nation’s independence in the field of medical devices as stated in Presidential Instruction No. 6 of 2016: Acceleration of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry Development; Minister of Health Regulation No. 17/2017 Action Plan for Acceleration of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry Development.
The Master’s Program in Biomedical Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) supported by 7 faculties. The research activities focus on strategically defined areas that address national and global health challenges. Research conducted by staff and graduate students is structured to ensure scientific depth, interdisciplinary collaboration, and strong translational impact.
The program’s research focus areas include:
- Biomaterials and Biomedical Devices
Health technology innovation through the development of biomaterials, implants, and medical devices for diagnostic, therapeutic, and regenerative applications. - Biosensing and Diagnostic Technologies
Contributing to early disease detection and precision medicine by developing biosensors, diagnostic platforms, and point-of-care technologies relevant to public health challenges. - Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering
Advancing data-driven healthcare solutions through artificial intelligence, including medical image analysis, clinical decision support systems, and health informatics. - Medical Instrumentation and Healthcare Systems
Strengthening healthcare service delivery through innovations in medical instrumentation, healthcare systems engineering, telemedicine, and health technology assessment.
